Frequently Asked Questions

Everything families ask most when getting started with Forge Prep.

The first step is scheduling a tour using the calendar on this page. After your visit, you can complete an application through our website. Once submitted, the typical timeline from application to acceptance is four to six weeks, pending interview scheduling. Both a parent interview and a student interview are part of our process. Acceptance decisions are communicated by email.
Forge Prep currently serves students in grades 5 through 9, with plans to expand through grade 12. We have an urgent need for students in grades 5 through 9, with particular interest in 9th grade for the coming school year. Mixed-age classes are a core feature of our model.
Tuition for the coming year is $60,000. Our admissions process is need-blind. In our first year, one third of students received financial aid. If Forge Prep is the right fit and your student is creative and capable, we encourage you to apply regardless of financial situation.
School runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Think of the day in athletic terms: practice, scrimmage, and game. Mornings are practice, with 45-minute direct instruction periods. After lunch, students enter scrimmage mode, applying what they learned to the real challenge they are working on. Every six to eight weeks is game day, where students present and defend their work in front of outside adults with real expertise in the relevant field. The school year runs year-round with scheduled breaks throughout.
Forge Prep evaluates mastery on a clear spectrum: awareness, recall, application, and teaching. Most schools stop at recall. Our model lives at the application level, where students use what they have learned to solve a real problem. Every student works a defined progression and must demonstrate each competency before advancing. Academic expectations are high. We expect students to be one to three years ahead of New Jersey standards. Forge Prep is accredited by Middle States.
Colleges evaluate three things: grades, standardized test scores, and narrative. Grade inflation has made GPA less meaningful, and SAT score ranges have compressed significantly. What sets students apart is narrative: what they have built, led, and contributed. Forge Prep's model is built around exactly that. From 5th through 9th grade students gain broad exposure to real challenges, developing a genuine story and the portfolio to back it up before they specialize in high school.
