Forge Prep is a private middle and high school in Livingston, NJ where students learn by building, not by memorizing. We develop high-agency, curious, capable, and resilient young people ready for the world ahead.
Curiosity over compliance. Building over busywork. Mastery over memorization. — Our Guiding Principles, Forge Prep
At Forge Prep, every element of the school day is designed so students apply what they learn to challenges that matter. No busywork. No memorize-and-forget. Just deep, meaningful work that sticks.
Students tackle real challenges on behalf of real people, bridging direct instruction with applied work. They use what they learn the same day they learn it.
Rather than letter grades, students demonstrate competency at every level before moving forward. Every student works a clear progression and is expected to reach 1 to 3 years ahead of New Jersey standards.
Each student is paired with a Guide who stays with them across multiple years, building a deep relationship, identifying strengths, and developing a personalized growth plan.
Students create with 3D printers, Cricut printers, electronics, robotics equipment, and a full media studio. Building is not an elective here, it is the model.
Every six to eight weeks, students defend their work in front of outside experts and the audiences they built for. Real stakes, real feedback, real growth.
Inspired by Montessori principles, our mixed-age classes for grades 5 through 9 give younger students role models and older students the chance to deepen their own understanding by teaching others.
The traditional school model was designed for an era that no longer exists. Forge Prep was built from the ground up for a world shaped by AI, rapid change, and the need for creative, capable problem-solvers.
Forge Prep accepted fewer than 10% of applicants in its first year. With a 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, every student is truly known and supported.
Forge Prep is accredited by Middle States. Students are expected to reach 1 to 3 years ahead of New Jersey academic standards through mastery-based progression.
Forge Prep believes access should not be limited by income. In our first year, one in three students received financial aid. We encourage every qualified family to apply.
Forge Prep was recently featured in The Wall Street Journal as part of a national conversation about the future of education and what learning looks like when it is built for today.
Hear from parents who chose Forge Prep and saw the difference firsthand.
"My daughter was completely bored at her public school. She came home every day uninspired. At Forge she is solving real problems and presenting her work to actual experts. She has never been more engaged."
"We looked at the traditional private schools in the area and they felt like more of the same. Forge is genuinely different. The way they build a real relationship with each student through the Guide program is something we have never seen before."
"Our son is creative and entrepreneurial and never fit the mold of a traditional school. Forge was built for kids exactly like him. He comes home talking about what he built and who he built it for. That says everything."
